Thermotropic Glass

As one of the less obvious solutions to controlling natural light – albeit generally more costly – thermotropic glass is considered to be amongst the most technologically advanced products one can apply to a domestic automation system.

Consisting of two glass panes sandwiching both a polymer gel and an electrochromic layer, extensive glazing to especially modern contemporary homes can be controlled via mains electricity. In simple terms, the charge initiates a transition in the gel from clear to ‘cloudy’, thus giving the appearance of dimming the glass and therefore controlling the passage of the sunlight.
