Home Automation – The Basics

In a few short years, ‘Smart Home’ technology has exploded onto the residential property scene with typically enormous purpose, functionality and excitement. No longer the preserve of James Bond, gadgets and special features are becoming commonplace in luxurious homes across the world – and no more so than here in the UK.

Although many building automation techniques were first developed in commercial settings – for example, light and climate control, door and window operations or security and surveillance systems – additional functions in home automation can include the control of multi-media home entertainment systems, automatic houseplant watering or pet feeding and even programmable sequences to create mood and atmosphere at dinners and parties.

In short, home automation twins a user-friendly control interface with the operation of almost any electronic device. This will typically include CCTV, air conditioning, heating and lighting, garage/gate/door entry systems, blinds and curtains, burglar alarms, fire alarms and even outdoor installations including lighting and water features – not to mention, of course, the comprehensive operation of all home entertainment systems.

Wills Brothers is a leading provider of complete Smart Home technology solutions – although projects that incorporate a more modest selection of the above functions are equally viable. It should be noted that we consider each project to be unique – indeed, many of the solutions we have implemented incorporate bespoke or made-to-order products and systems.
