Team Chevin Bang and Olufsen

Chevin TLI Road Race Series - Milby Circuit

Slightly unusual groups for this Tuesdays race, a big surprise to us was the Yellow Jersey, our very own Marc Help set off in the first group with Chris Hope and Mike Gill.  The next surprise was to find Lee Owen-Stanford, Trevor Larcombe, Jon Hobson and Craig Armitage in group 2.  The rest of Team Chevin were in Group 3 and the Scratch.

This completely changed the Team plan to protect the Jersey, as we all expected to be in group 3 and Scratch.  Marc asked Lee what the Team plan was just before the 1st group set off, the answer was a bit of an uncertain, 'just ride and we'll sort it when we catch your group'

Group 1 set off and worked well together, but they didn't seem to have the pace of the previous race.  Marc kept a level head and saved himself for the prime lap.  Taking the full three points and extending his lead in the series.

Group 2 worked reasonably well together with the majority of effort taken up by Team Chevin Bang & Olufsen. Half way through the penultimate lap the group caught the 1st containing the Yellow Jersey, Lee rode straight up to Marc Help and pointed at him, then his back wheel.  From that moment on Marc practically super glued himself to Lee's rear well.

Meanwhile the Scratch and the 3rd group had joined up, Scott Thwaites (Crosstrax) and Jamie Sharpe (York Cycleworks) were looking for another victory and picked up the pace to catch the leading groups.

Halfway through the last lap the group containing the yellow jersey were still away, but the attacks by other riders started to come, it took a lot of sensible racing and work by the Team but they comfortably controlled the race.  Lee, with Marc on his wheel, was keeping a close eye on the things and by the last 500 metres had moved Marc right up to the front.  Lee lead Marc out from the bottom of the climb to the finish at the top.  He expected Marc to come around to take the win but they went over the line, Lee taking 1st, Marc 2nd, with the third place rider a good few bike lengths back.

The team secured 3 riders in the top four, with Trevor Larcombe coming 4th, and 4 in the top 10, with Craig Armitage coming in 7th.  It is important to mention Jon Hobson, Mike Gill and Chris Hope as without their hard work the win would not have been achieved.  It was a real team effort.

As a result the Team have surged further ahead in the Team Standings, and Marc has secured his Jersey for the next race at the Aldborough Circuit on the 16th June 2009.

Results: Lee Owen-Stanford 1st, Marc Help 2nd, Trevor Larcombe 4th, Craig Armitage 7th
