Eric Biddulph Memorial Road Race

Not the best start to a race with three injured or ill riders. Craig Armitage had an incident with a car, writing off his bike and injuring himself on the Thursday, whilst Lee Owen-Stanford, on the same day tried flying lessons down Dollywagon Pike off Hellvelyn in the Lakes, failed miserably and landed right hip first on a rather pointy bit of slate.  Your supposed to stay on the MTB. Meanwhile Mike Salkeld is recovering from illness.  Fortunately we had two fit riders in Steve Whitehurst and Ewan Sewell.

The Race, it pretty much all started with three laps to go. Ben Kellet managed to drop Mark Buckingham. Andrew Noble (Moonglu RT) joined up with Buckingham and together they chased Kellet, who despite still being a junior, was making them work very hard. With a lap to go, Buckingham had rejoined Kellet at the head of the race, as Noble dropped back to the main pack. Mark fearing Ben in a sprint finish, broke clear in the closing mile to solo to his first ever win.

Meanwhile, an ill Mike Salkeld pulled out on lap 3, Craig went on the 4th, the pain from his collision earlier in the week becoming to much to bare, and finally, Lee pulled out on the last lap, with exactly the same problem, too much pain in his hip from his failed flying lesson and argument with a pointy piece of slate.

Ewan had a fantastic result, working on the front for much of the race he managed to come over the line in 8th.  Not bad for a Junior.
